Sky Scarf Week: 20, 21 and 22

I didn't realize how long it had been since I posted pictures of this scarf, oops!

See all that blue and white? Yep, summer has arrived.

And just because I'm always curious about where people knit, here's where I usually do my knitting. Lovely, isn't it?

Sky Scarf: Week 17 & 18

I didn't get a chance to post this last weekend, it's been a crazy couple of weeks, but things are settling down now. Sly is out of that review course and graduated, yay!

Here's a picture of the last couple of weeks.

And a little something else I've been working on today.

My first pair of toe up socks. The pattern is easy to read so far. I'm a little nervous about the heel, but I'm sure it'll work out. It was my first time using the Judy's Magic Cast-On method, and it's definitely not my best knitting, but it'll keep my toes warm none the less. Once you've read the the directions for the cast on it's surprisingly easy to do, knitting the first row on DPN's was awkward but not undoable. 

Sky Scarf: Week 16

My scarf is 1/3 done! Yipee! This year is creeping by and flying by all at the same time. The first week of May is going to be crazy, hopefully I can still keep up with all this.

It has been a cloudy, but mostly rain-less week. We finally got a bit of rain (and some thunder) last night. Hoping for a bit more rain today, my plants could use it. Plus, it cools it down, which is lovely!

Sly has Tuesday off, which happens to be both his Birthday and probably the last day off before he graduates May 5th. I'm hoping the weather will be pretty so we can do something fun.

Sky Scarf: Week 15

Quick post today, we're having a no nap day. Yay.
I decided to measure my scarf and it's about 16.5 inches, unblocked.

Sky Scarf: Week 14

It got cold this weekend! I'm not sure who said it could do that, but I don't much appreciate it. Other then not having to run the AC, anyway. ;)

We had beautiful blue skies last week, then we had some cloudy skies and then it down right poured one day, all day long and through the night. This last weekend it was somewhat cloudy and then we'd have blue skies again.

Sylvester didn't get to play outside for a couple days because it was way too wet, so when he went out yesterday he was like a freed prisoner, LOL. He had sand behind his ears, in his hair, in his socks, it was great.

Sky Scarf: Week 13

Have you played Hanging with Friends? The reason I ask is the animation happens to be floating in the sky as  you play. I'll warn you, this game is highly addictive. Sly and I sat for two hours the other night, watched TV and played this... sitting across the room from each other.

This last week has been a week of pretty blue skies! It brought some very warm weather with it too, but that's okay. Yesterday was a little greyer, but the days before that were all blue. Kind of boring for this kind of knitting, but it meant less untangling of all the other yarns.

Do you ever notice something you'd change one you can see the pictures on your computer? I would have pushed the center down so you could see the stitches evenly.

Sky Scarf: Week 12

I was really bad this week. I sat down yesterday and caught up with all my days. I hadn't knit on this in 4 days. It didn't take long to catch up, but that's beside the point. It's not that I didn't stop to enjoy the sky, it's that I spent too much time enjoying it and not enough time knitting!

Quick picture taken as the sun was going down. It was pretty stormy weather yesterday, more then a little scary. Hoping for sunny skies so Sylvester can play outside on his new toys!

Sky Scarf: Week 11

A week of beautiful weather! Thankfully while Sly was on spring break. Couldn't have asked for more.

I need to measure this soon, so how long it is so far. I'll do that next Saturday, that will be 3 months in, that will give me a clue how long it will be when it's done.

Sky Scarf: Week 9

The weather has been so weird this winter. I went out to take these pictures yesterday morning before the rain started, at 8am it was in the high 60's to low 70's. Then it started to rain and rained all day. None stop. We got over an inch of rain by 6pm and it rained into the night (past when I went to bed at 10pm). Thankfully it's only supposed to rain until about noon today, so I can at least take Sylvester out shopping. I think by then we'll both be tired of being cooped up in the house!

I got a new camera, yay! It was already very cloudy and overcast when I went out to take these, so the color isn't great, but the camera is sweet.

Sky Scarf: Week 8

Two months done, ten to go! I'm debating doing something funky in it for the Leap Year, I just can't decide what. I don't know if I should keep it simple and do a stockinette row or use all the colors in one row. Decisions, decisions.

Sky Scarf: Week 7

It's hard to keep up with this project some nights because I will forget until it's bedtime, but I'm still enjoying it. I took Sylvester outside yesterday morning before the dew was even gone off the plants and grass to play. It looked like it was going to rain so I wanted some outside time, while it was still semi-sunny, before it got bad.

You can see my ever present helper in the corner of the photo. He wasn't sure what to play with, the needles, yarn or phone.

Sky Scarf: Week 6

Um, brrr? Why did it have to get so cold so suddenly? Or at all really, I don't like the cold, it could have stayed away. It was 24 degrees when I woke up this morning, so needless to say, these pictures were taken inside where it's a tad bit warmer.

I'm using a lot more white in this scarf then I thought I would. I guess I never realized how many days we have that there are clouds floating around in the sky. It's not cloudy every day, but more often then not, there's some hanging around. Usually big fluffy white ones!

P.S. You'll also have to excuse the phone picture, my camera finally bit the dust. :'( I got some money for my birthday, so I'll be looking at getting a new one ASAP. I'd love a DSLR but I don't think that will happen, so can anyone suggest a good point and shoot?

Sky Scarf: Week 5

We had quite a few days of sunny skies this past week. We've now hit a few days of grey, rainy, yucky skies. But at least it's still warm! I'm kind of excited about the storms we're going to get over the next couple of days, add some contrasting color into the mix, lol. 

Charleston Blue Sky Scarf

Excuse the poor photo quality, I had to take it inside today, on the couch. I took it where I sit to knit because it has the best natural lighting, but that doesn't really help when there's no sun poking through the clouds. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Sky Scarf: Week 4

I'm beginning to wonder if there's a better way to keep these yarns straight, other then the bobbins. I spent about as much time as it takes me to knit two rows, untangling them before I can knit anything. Any hints? Tips? The pattern says not to cut the yarn, but I'm tempted to.

Week 3: Sky Scarf

I can't believe another week has flown by. Here's an updated picture of my scarf with 14 more rows (7 more ridges).

It stormed all day yesterday, so I ended up adding a row with the dark grey and dark blue. I'm not used to it actually storming in January. It usually rains, we don't get much snow, but I'm not used to thunder. It definitely made it more difficult getting Sylvester to sleep, he wanted to go look every time it got noisy outside.

Week 2: Sky Scarf

We had our first stormy day of the year! I have to admit, when I saw it raining I was more than a little excited about getting to use my dark grey for this scarf. ;)

I'd never used such fine (in weight and quality) yarns before this project. I've always been a mostly acrylic or kitchen cotton kind of girl. This scarf is going to be so soft when it's finished, every time I add a row I just want to squeeze it a few dozen times. Who knew mohair, wool, alpaca, angora and bamboo could be so soft?!

Judging by the way this is working up now, the scarf will be about 5 foot when it's finished. I think that will be plenty long enough for me. I'm loving this project, it's my favorite in a long time.

The First Seven

January 8th, 2012 - High Temp 76 with a slight breeze.

We're already a week into 2012 and it has been wonderful. The weather is beautiful, my husband has been home, Sylvester has been an angel despite teething (ugh. molars) and I'm just generally feeling incredibly lucky.

I've completed a seven ridges for my Sky Scarf so far, I love how this project gets me to really take note of the weather. It has been wonderful weather here, and we've been living it up because I know it will get cold next week!

The awesome wraps up the side of the scarf, love this.

Charleston Blue Sky Scarf

I found this intriguing idea on Pinterest about a "sky scarf." I love the idea of going outside or looking through the window and really taking a look at the sky and then keeping a journal in the form of knitting. I was already considering how I would keep track of the weather, for my gardening, and this project kind of takes it to a new level. 


I couldn't get yarn until the 2nd, so I did two days and now I'll go daily as the year goes on. I love that I started doing this on a leap year, makes it that much cooler. Here's a link to my project page on Ravelry, which list the kinds of yarn I'm using.
